Exterior Coating Services for Water Tanks, Fuel Tanks, Oil Tanks & Chemical Tanks

Bolted and welded steel tank exteriors are susceptible to corrosion brought on by many outside causes. In all cases, once corrosion has started under the tank's protective coating, the structural integrity of the vessel can be affected and if not corrected, eventually compromise the useful life of the tank. Our experienced coatings specialists can advise you as to the proper process and products for your tank's exteriors to allow them to achieve their maximum useful life.

AST Tank Bottom Coating

Tank bottoms in above ground atmospheric storage tanks (ASTs) are susceptible to both external and internal corrosion. Our crews can repair permeations in tank bottoms in accordance with API Standard 653, Tank Inspection, Repair, Alteration and Reconstruction, without undue costs or prolonged tank downtime. After necessary repairs are performed, our crews can install a fiberglass mat and resin (FRP) floor pan or spray up a DuraChem DK2 polylining floor pan.

Applying PLS 755 Tank Tape

TIn conjunction with our tank lining and coating systems, AmTech uses Poly Lining Systems PLS 755 Tank Tape, a specialized industrial tape specifically manufactured with ultra-strong, instant bonding adhesive compounds. It can provide permanent or semi-permanent solutions to common issues AmTech technicians come across in the field.

Often times our technicians find gaps around pipe openings and nozzles while working on a tank lining project. While these gaps do not create leaks or structural issues, filling or coating them can prove to be a challenge. PLS 755 Tank Tape is an excellent solution, bridging these gaps and creating a flat and complete surface to line over. And since PLS Tape is compatible with all AmTech coatings, providing a strong and attractive finished product and ensuring a tight fit and complete coverage is possible.

In addition to bridging gaps, this tape can be used as a sealing wrap, providing a temporary solution for leaks in low pressure piping. While AmTech does not certify it as a permanent solution for this application, our techs find it useful for stopping active leaks until other maintenance can be performed or to enable the pipe to be coated. It works on any clean and dry solid substrate with minimal prep time, enabling most low-pressure leaks to be sealed instantly.

Tank Painting Surface Preparation

You can use the best coating/paint products in the world, but if the surface is not prepared properly before the application, premature coating failure and substrate metal deterioration is inevitable. Our tank Coating Specialists study each project and determine the optimum approach to surface preparation based on site specific conditions such as tank materials, existing corrosion, humidity and other environmental conditions.
